2026 WORLD SERIES RECORDS: BREWERS MAKE HISTORY WITH FASTEST PITCH, ROOKIE HITTING STREAK AND FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP

SportsIn60 MLB History and Analysis ·

The Milwaukee Brewers waited 57 seasons to become World Series champions. When their moment finally arrived, they did more than win baseball's biggest prize.

They rewrote the record books.

Milwaukee defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 on Wednesday, October 28, capturing the 2026 World Series four games to one and securing the first championship in franchise history.

But the final result tells only part of the story.

Across five games, the Brewers produced a remarkable collection of individual records, postseason milestones and historical firsts.

Jacob Misiorowski threw the fastest recorded pitch in World Series history. Rookie Cooper Pratt established a new World Series record with hits in six consecutive at-bats. Jackson Chourio surpassed a hitting mark associated with Babe Ruth.

Reliever Aaron Ashby set a new postseason standard for consecutive scoreless innings, while Milwaukee's offense produced one of the most extraordinary two-out rallies in playoff history.

William Contreras completed the championship run by earning World Series Most Valuable Player honors.

For a franchise that had experienced decades of postseason disappointment, the 2026 World Series became a celebration of both team achievement and individual excellence.

Here are the records that defined Milwaukee's historic championship.

MILWAUKEE BREWERS: FIRST WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP IN FRANCHISE HISTORY

*Final result: Brewers defeat Rays, 4-1*

Milwaukee's championship was itself the most important historical first.

The franchise began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 before relocating to Milwaukee in 1970.

Despite numerous successful seasons, the Brewers had never won the World Series.

Their only previous appearance came in 1982, when a team featuring Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Cecil Cooper and Rollie Fingers lost a seven-game championship series to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Forty-four years later, Milwaukee finally returned to the Fall Classic.

The 2026 Brewers entered the postseason after winning a franchise-record 103 regular-season games, the most in Major League Baseball.

They defeated San Diego in the National League Division Series, swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series and then beat Tampa Bay in five games.

Milwaukee finished the postseason with an extraordinary 11-2 record.

The championship also reduced the number of active MLB franchises without a World Series title from five to four.

The Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays remain on that list.

For Milwaukee, the long wait was finally over.

COOPER PRATT: SIX CONSECUTIVE WORLD SERIES HITS SET A ROOKIE RECORD

*New World Series rookie record: Six consecutive at-bats with a hit*

Cooper Pratt saved some of his best baseball for the biggest stage.

The 22-year-old Milwaukee shortstop entered Game 5 after collecting four hits in Game 4, including a dramatic 12th-inning home run that temporarily put the Brewers ahead.

He continued his extraordinary streak in the championship clincher.

Pratt delivered an RBI single in the second inning and another hit in the fifth, giving him hits in six consecutive at-bats across Games 4 and 5.

That established a new World Series record for a rookie.

The previous rookie record was five consecutive hits, set by Brian Doyle of the New York Yankees in 1978.

Pratt became the first player of any experience level to record six consecutive World Series hits since David Ortiz accomplished the feat for the Boston Red Sox in 2013.

His streak ended when he delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning of Game 5.

That play was still important, driving in another Milwaukee run and helping extend the lead to 4-0.

Pratt finished the World Series batting .421, collecting eight hits in 19 at-bats.

He also drove in two runs in the decisive Game 5.

The rookie's performance was especially remarkable considering that he made his major league debut in June.

In only a few months, Pratt went from a young player beginning his major league career to a World Series champion and record holder.

His four-hit performance in Game 4 also made him the first rookie to collect four hits in a potential World Series-clinching game.

JACKSON CHOURIO: 11 HITS IN FIVE GAMES SURPASS A HISTORIC MARK

*New record: Most hits through five games of a World Series*

Jackson Chourio entered Game 5 having already tied one of baseball's most recognizable historical figures.

Through the first four games, Milwaukee's 22-year-old outfielder had collected 10 hits, matching Babe Ruth's total through the opening four games of the 1928 World Series.

Chourio added another hit in Game 5.

That gave him 11 hits across the five-game series, establishing a new World Series record for the most hits through five games.

His achievement was particularly impressive because he recorded multiple hits in each of the first four games.

Chourio became the youngest player in World Series history to begin a championship series with four consecutive multihit performances.

He was also only the 10th player ever to accomplish that feat.

His production continued an exceptional early postseason career.

During Game 4, Chourio surpassed Andruw Jones' record for career postseason hits before turning 23.

Jones had collected 30 postseason hits before his 23rd birthday.

Chourio passed that total in far fewer games.

The young outfielder's combination of contact hitting, speed and postseason composure has already placed him among baseball's most promising stars.

Now he owns a World Series championship and several entries in the record book.

JACOB MISIOROWSKI: FASTEST RECORDED WORLD SERIES PITCH

*103.5 mph — New World Series pitch-tracking era record*

Jacob Misiorowski's first pitch of the 2026 World Series was unlike anything previously recorded in the Fall Classic.

Facing Tampa Bay's Yandy Díaz in Game 1, the Milwaukee right-hander unleashed a fastball clocked at 103.5 mph.

Yandy Díaz

The pitch established a World Series velocity record for the modern pitch-tracking era, which began in 2008.

The previous mark belonged to Aroldis Chapman, who reached 103.2 mph while pitching for the Chicago Cubs in the 2016 World Series.

Misiorowski exceeded that speed before recording his first out.

He also threw 40 pitches at 100 mph or faster during Game 1, another World Series record for the pitch-tracking era.

The remarkable display demonstrated the extraordinary power that made him one of baseball's most dominant young pitchers.

Misiorowski later started Game 5, pitching 5⅔ scoreless innings as Milwaukee secured its first championship.

His two performances provided fitting bookends to a historic World Series.

AARON ASHBY: A NEW POSTSEASON RELIEF-PITCHING RECORD

*18 consecutive scoreless relief innings in one postseason*

Milwaukee's starting pitching received considerable attention, but the Brewers' bullpen was equally important.

Aaron Ashby delivered one of the most impressive relief performances in postseason history.

The left-hander compiled 18 consecutive scoreless relief innings across nine appearances, breaking the previous single-postseason record held by Andrew Miller.

Miller had recorded 16 consecutive scoreless relief innings for Cleveland during the 2016 postseason.

Ashby surpassed that mark during Game 4 against Tampa Bay.

His performance demonstrated remarkable consistency, especially considering the demands placed on modern relief pitchers.

He repeatedly entered games in important situations and prevented opponents from scoring.

Ashby also became the first pitcher in postseason history to record at least five outs without allowing a run in seven consecutive appearances.

The achievement reflected Milwaukee's ability to rely on its bullpen for more than a single inning.

That depth helped the Brewers control games throughout their championship run.

MILWAUKEE'S GAME 3 OFFENSE: SEVEN STRAIGHT HITS AND EIGHT TWO-OUT RUNS

*New postseason and World Series records*

The Brewers' most explosive offensive performance came during Game 3.

Milwaukee entered the fifth inning leading Tampa Bay 2-0.

With two outs, the Brewers launched a rally that produced one of the most remarkable sequences in postseason history.

Seven consecutive Milwaukee batters recorded hits.

According to OptaSTATS, it was the first time any team had produced seven consecutive hits in a postseason game.

The Brewers also scored eight runs after two outs in the inning.

That established a World Series record for the most two-out runs in a single inning.

The rally featured contributions from throughout Milwaukee's lineup, including Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick, David Hamilton and Jackson Chourio.

Milwaukee eventually won Game 3 by a 10-1 score.

The performance illustrated one of the defining characteristics of the championship team.

The Brewers did not depend exclusively on home runs.

They combined contact hitting, patience, speed and timely offensive execution.

That approach proved effective throughout October.

WILLIAM CONTRERAS: WORLD SERIES MVP

*World Series MVP: .381 batting average*

Milwaukee catcher William Contreras earned World Series Most Valuable Player honors after an outstanding performance on both sides of the ball.

Contreras batted .381 during the five-game championship series.

He contributed a run-scoring double in Game 5 and played an important role in directing Milwaukee's pitching staff.

His defensive work was equally significant.

Contreras threw out four attempted base stealers during the series and excelled at using Major League Baseball's Automated Ball-Strike challenge system.

In the first World Series played with the ABS challenge system, Contreras successfully overturned 10 of his 13 challenges.

That gave Milwaukee an important advantage in critical pitch-count situations.

His combination of offense, defense and game management made him a deserving MVP selection.

Contreras became the eighth catcher to win World Series MVP honors.

His performance also highlighted how modern baseball increasingly rewards players who contribute through skills that extend beyond traditional batting statistics.

TAMPA BAY'S GAME 4 COMEBACK PREVENTS A WORLD SERIES SWEEP

*Fifth team to force Game 5 after trailing 3-0*

Although Tampa Bay ultimately lost the championship, the Rays contributed one of the series' most dramatic moments.

Trailing three games to none, Tampa Bay faced elimination in Game 4.

Milwaukee appeared ready to complete the sweep when Pratt hit a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning, giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead.

But the Rays rallied in the bottom of the inning.

Jonny DeLuca delivered a game-tying hit, and Ben Williamson followed with the winning single.

Tampa Bay's 4-3 victory forced Game 5 and placed the Rays in rare company.

They became only the fifth team in World Series history to avoid a sweep after losing the first three games.

The previous four were the 1910 Chicago Cubs, 1937 New York Giants, 1970 Cincinnati Reds and 2024 New York Yankees.

None managed to force Game 6.

The Rays also extended the streak of World Series without a sweep to 14 consecutive years.

The last four-game World Series sweep occurred in 2012, when the San Francisco Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers.

Milwaukee ultimately ended Tampa Bay's comeback hopes the following night.

THE FINAL NUMBERS BEHIND MILWAUKEE'S CHAMPIONSHIP

The Brewers' statistical dominance extended beyond the individual records.

Milwaukee outhit Tampa Bay 51-30 during the five-game series.

The Brewers outscored the Rays 25-12.

They finished the postseason with 11 victories in 13 games.

And they claimed their first World Series championship after 57 seasons of waiting.

The achievement belonged to an entire roster, from established veterans such as Christian Yelich and William Contreras to emerging stars such as Jackson Chourio, Cooper Pratt and Jacob Misiorowski.

Manager Pat Murphy guided a team that combined exceptional pitching, timely hitting and defensive discipline.

Milwaukee's championship also provided a reminder that postseason success is not determined solely by payroll size or individual star power.

The Brewers won through depth, preparation and contributions from throughout their roster.

A WORLD SERIES THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR ITS RECORDS

Every World Series produces a champion.

Only a few produce so many historic achievements.

The 2026 Fall Classic featured the fastest recorded pitch in World Series history, a rookie hitting streak unmatched in championship play, a young outfielder surpassing a mark associated with Babe Ruth and a reliever breaking a decade-old postseason record.

It also featured one of the most remarkable offensive innings ever seen in October.

And at the center of it all was a Milwaukee franchise finally celebrating its first championship.

Misiorowski provided the power.

Ashby delivered the consistency.

Chourio and Pratt supplied extraordinary young talent.

Contreras earned the MVP award.

Together, they delivered the championship that generations of Brewers fans had waited to celebrate.

The 2026 World Series will be remembered not only for who won, but for how many records were rewritten along the way.

For Milwaukee, the greatest record of all is now permanent.

World Series championships: One.
