NBA Cities A Guide to Arenas Tickets and the Cost of Basketball

NBA Cities A Guide to Arenas Tickets and the Cost of Basketball

Basketballin60 Originals ·

All 30 teams with arena addresses, seating capacity, ticket price rankings, parking advice, suite costs and the facilities and financial considerations that matter to players.

The seat is only the beginning of the bill

An NBA evening can mean stepping off a train directly beneath the arena or spending an hour crossing a sprawling metropolitan area before paying to park. The game lasts 48 minutes, but the financial commitment begins well before tipoff. A ticket, a garage reservation, dinner and the journey home can turn two apparently similar basketball outings into very different purchases.

For players, the comparison is broader still. The arena is the public stage; the practice facility is where much of the working week happens. Medical support, recovery space, daily travel and family routines can make a market attractive even before the team starts discussing salary. Taxes matter, but the city printed across a jersey cannot calculate a player’s take-home pay.

This guide covers the NBA’s 30 teams. It identifies where they play now, explains a published ticket price comparison, and separates existing facilities from future projects. It is designed to help fans budget for an actual visit and help readers understand why players may value the same cities differently.

What the ticket ranking measures

The ranking below uses Visit Your Team’s published resale ticket estimates, accessed October 27 2026. Its average-ticket figure is a mean of the resale medians for the venue’s seating tiers. It is not an audited average of tickets sold, a season-ticket face value or the cheapest seat available for a particular game. Rows with the same dollar figure share a rank. [1]

All values are US dollars. The source converts Canadian prices at US$0.72 per Canadian dollar, using its August 14 2026 exchange rate. That is a fixed comparison convention, not today’s currency quote. The source also distinguishes checked figures from estimates; these figures should be treated as indicative budgets because this ranking does not reproduce a venue-by-venue verification history. Fee treatment is not established consistently enough to promise an all-in checkout total.

A major visiting star, weekend game or playoff contest may cost much more than an ordinary date. Conversely, an upper-level seat for a lower-demand game may cost far less than this index. Compare the same seating category, number of adjacent seats and final checkout amount before deciding which city is expensive.

What the price gap means for a visiting fan

New York, Golden State, the Lakers and Boston sit near the expensive end of this published index. San Antonio, Charlotte and New Orleans sit near its lower end. That provides a useful starting point for a basketball trip, but it does not say that every seat in one arena costs more than every seat in another. A premium-heavy seating mix can lift this particular measure.

The opponent is part of the purchase. Someone who mainly wants to experience an NBA atmosphere can search several dates and accept a less fashionable matchup. Someone travelling to see one specific player faces a different risk: a ticket normally guarantees admission to the event, not that player’s participation. Check the seller’s terms before buying flights around a single appearance.

Seat location also changes the value calculation. A centre-court upper-level seat may be more useful for following spacing and tactics than a similarly priced seat behind the basket. Compare actual sightlines rather than assuming that a lower row automatically offers the better basketball view.

Parking can erase the saving on a ticket

TD Garden publishes a US$65 North Station Garage event rate, subject to its entry window and other conditions. A cheaper advance reservation or another garage is a different product. North Station’s rail connections therefore deserve a place in the budget alongside the seat price. [3]

Inglewood illustrates a different solution. Intuit Dome offers shuttle options that require checking routes and booking instructions; its parking guidance recommends purchasing the correct pass in advance. A free shuttle can reduce the cash cost, but the meeting point and departure schedule still need to suit the visitor. [4]

At downtown arenas, compare the price of a garage with the combined cost of rail fares for the group. Four people sharing one car may reach a different conclusion from a solo traveller. Check accessible parking, the distance from the vehicle to the gate and whether the lot permits the arrival time you need. The directory below identifies the main transport choices without presenting a single garage quote as a citywide rate.

How much a private box costs

Suite Experience Group places many NBA single-game suites around US$4,000–10,000, within a broader US$3,000–18,000-plus range. These are marketplace planning figures. Group size, opponent and inclusions determine the actual quote. [5]

For venue-level context, LuxuryVIPSuites lists regular-season ranges of US$4,000–18,000 at United Center, US$3,500–9,000 at TD Garden and US$5,000–33,000 at Chase Center. Shared NBA and NHL venues may show a general venue range. These are resale estimates per suite per event, with catering excluded, not official club offers. [6]

A US$6,000 suite divided among 16 guests works out to US$375 each before any extra charges. Add US$1,600 of food and drink and US$400 in other costs and the total becomes US$500 each. That example is arithmetic, not a bookable package. Ask for a written quote stating the admission count, fixed seats, extra guest rules, food, alcohol, parking, fees and tax.

Which cities face an arena decision

Oklahoma City has moved beyond discussing a replacement. The city and Thunder broke ground on Continental Coliseum in March 2026. Paycom Center remains the current game venue while that project develops. The useful distinction for a visitor is between a funded construction project and an arena that already has games on sale. [7]

Philadelphia has a new shared arena planned for the 76ers and Flyers in South Philadelphia, with a 2030 target. Today’s 76ers games remain at Xfinity Mobile Arena. [8]

Washington is upgrading Capital One Arena rather than asking fans to attend an already completed replacement. Denver has also announced substantial renovation work at Ball Arena. In each case, construction can influence entrances, hospitality spaces and access before it changes the address. [9–10]

Age alone is a poor test of whether a city needs a new building. A well-maintained older arena with strong transport links can serve fans well, while a newer building can still have expensive parking or inconvenient circulation. Assess accessibility, sightlines, maintenance, premium revenue and the public financing proposal separately.

The practice facility is a player’s daily workplace

NBA teams increasingly bring courts, strength work, nutrition, treatment and video analysis into one dedicated base. Houston’s Memorial Hermann training centre and San Antonio’s Victory Capital Performance Center illustrate that investment. Golden State practises at its Chase Center campus, while the Lakers travel to El Segundo. These are different working arrangements, not simply different sponsor names. [11–13]

Charlotte’s Novant Health Performance Center is scheduled for spring 2027, while Cleveland’s new downtown training project is also planned for 2027. Utah is building a new Jazz practice facility in Sandy. Those projects should be described as future facilities until the clubs move in. [14–16]

A convenient commute can matter across a long season. So can access to specialist care and enough court space for development work outside team practice. Fans should remember that an impressive training campus is primarily a workplace; its existence does not mean the public can enter or watch whenever it wishes.

Why tax advantages require a player by player calculation

Florida and Texas do not impose a state personal income tax, while Tennessee does not tax earned wages. That can benefit players with the Heat, Magic, Mavericks, Rockets, Spurs or Grizzlies, depending on residence and income allocation. Federal taxes and other obligations remain. [17–20]

Road work complicates the comparison. California’s athlete rules allocate income using duty days, and other jurisdictions have their own sourcing rules. Practices and other required work can matter as well as games. A player cannot simply treat every dollar of salary as earned in the state where the team plays at home. [21–22]

The Raptors introduce Canadian residence, Ontario tax and cross-border treaty considerations. The Canada–US treaty contains a special rule for athletes in leagues operating regularly in both countries; ordinary entertainer summaries are not a complete payroll calculation. Housing, exchange rates and credits also belong in the comparison. [24]

Finally, distinguish residence from branding. The 76ers play in Pennsylvania and train in New Jersey; the Knicks play in Manhattan and train in Tarrytown. A personalised projection should consider where the player actually lives and works, compensation structure and available credits. This section explains the issues and is not individual tax advice.

Choosing the right basketball trip

Start with the date and the experience you want, then price the complete evening. Compare a specific seat, a realistic transport plan and the final seller total. For a suite, compare packages for the same guest count and inclusions. For a player considering a market, add the training environment, role, medical support and daily routine to the financial calculation. The most expensive arena is not automatically the best trip, and the most favourable tax headline is not a complete career decision.
