Rafael Jodar defeated Casper Ruud 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, becoming the youngest semifinalist in Shanghai tournament history. The 20-year-old broke Ruud's serve five times in the final 2 sets. It was his fourth consecutive comeback victory from a set down at this event.

Iga Swiatek beat Ann Li 6-4, 6-1 to reach her first Wuhan Open semifinal. She won 7 of the final 8 games to complete the victory. Maja Chwalinska defeated Maria Sakkari 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 to join her in the last 4.

Sonay Kartal defeated Elina Svitolina 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to reach her first WTA 1000 semifinal. She converted her first break point of the deciding set to clinch the match.
